my dad is an business information technology consultant and he calls his programmers propeller heads ……….. why does he call them that ?.

    Back many moons ago, they made beanies with propellers on them. Somewhere along the line, anyone who wore one was deemed a geek or nerd.

    Way back in the 1940’s and 50’s people used to get beanies that had a propeller on top. Then, at some point, these beanies became associated with “geeks” if you will. In other words, bookish, studious type people. So, it isn’t a stretch to call programmers, people who are good at math and logic and who can problem solve, Propeller heads, etc.
