Do you think of GREEN TECHNOLOGY as GREEN MAIL; fluorescent lights and ethanol driving up food prices?
julio_slsc asked:
This technology, ie ethanol, flourescent lighting is poor quality, less efficient and inflationary. Look at food prices as farmers commit more land to ethanol corn. Look at the cost of a flourcsent light compared to a simple incandescent-in the home-in practice with all the switching on and off, incandescent lights use less energy due to the fact that flourecscents must remain on for several hours before they save money. That is why office buildings and factories have long used flourescent lihgts, they leave them on for up to 16 hours a day with no shut offs save closing time. Now how often do you turn the light on and off with little kids? I speak from experience as I am a dad and business consultant. We must pay for groceries and electricity at home and at work.
Who do think benefits form expensive ethanol and flourecent lights?
Who do you think pays for this waste of money?

How does my company (manufacturer) locate new product catagories and potential customers for them?
kizmys asked:
I have a new project to set up a system for our Sales department to locate new customers in different market/industry area. We want to diversify by offering products based on our existing technologies. Our management wants a “database” that will list potential customers, current products and their match with our capabilities, total sales volume and portion that would be applicable to our company, etc.
Can anybody suggest any online services, consultants, or other resources that may help me understand what may be available?

How can I find part-time typing jobs in Berea or Richmond, KY?
Sue J asked:
I would like to have some part-time work doing keyboarding (typing) work for a business or as a transcriptionist or for the courts or in some way to be able to earn a little extra money aside from my regular 40 hour a week job. I could be available on Sat or Sun and I can work at home or elsewhere on those days or at home after my daily work hours of 7am - 4pm. I just purchased a new Dell computer in Dec and I am Microsoft Office Certified. I am an Information Resources and Technology Consultant in my 40 hour a week job and I am very qualified to take on projects of data entry, spreadsheeting, database work - pretty much the gamut as far as Office 2007 software is concerned.

Tax question: Independent consultant vs. employee?
jscheese asked: I work for a technology company that employs about 40 people. I have been working here since January. I work at the office on their computer, during their normal hours (for the most part). I was hired as a “temp” in January, but as they normally go through a temp agency, and I applied through word of mouth, they pay me as they would the temp agency–with nothing taken out of my check. They classify me as being paid as a consultant. However, I do not fit into the IRS’s 20point check to fit as an independent consultant for tax purposes. Under the IRS quidelines, I am an employee. And looking into this I heard I was supposed to be paying these taxes quarterly? Can anyone explain to me what steps I need to take to take care of my taxes? Jess Driveway alarm is an extremely popular item due to its ease of installation

How to make it in the IT?
John W asked:
Hi. I am a junior student in a Computer Science college and have 1.5 years of software development experience in the past (Perl, VB, SQL). I have a lot of free time in the summer and was wondering what should I do in order to make it in the IT. I want to be one of the best programmers and eventually become a consultant, because thats what the best programmers become, I guess. Should I read some IT books in my free time? How should I figure out what books to read? There are so many technologies. Will recruiters value my extra reading and studying?
Also, I work at night doing student type job, but I want to switch to IT job. How can I do this? Are there part-time internships I can do in the mornings in Summer?
What should I do if I am looking for a job and there is a language that I dont know, but I want to learn it for the job. Can I say to the recruiter that I will learn this language on the job? Should I take a course in it? Can I just learn it on my own? How is it done in the IT industry? Because college teaches us only couple of languages but many programmers know so many languages.

On my resume should I mention the names of big customers I was contracted to under a consulting firm?
FREDDYN asked:
I worked as a consultant for a top name software company for 15 years. During that time I serviced some very big clients. Should I put those client names, each of whom represent different industries, on my resume? Note, I was never an employee of these big clients, but rather a consultant brought onsite as a representative of the software company I worked for.
One of my friends told me absolutely not as it could lead to legal ramifications. She also indicated that potential employers may misconstrue that I was trying to get by on the publicity of those companies and not my own merit.
If it is not advisable to ‘name drop’, how do I show that I worked as a technology consultant for specific industries like mulit-media, hospitality, petroleum distribution, etc. ?
Please advise.
